Rocket Languages review criteria
The content is great and like many others there is room for improvements, but overall solid. I wish the voice recognition worked better as with the shorter words mainly the site and applications give the error no speech detected but I can play back the recording without issue from their site and application. It would be a 5 across the board with the following changes:
Voice recognition worked better
Use shorter sentences or slow down the speech at the beginner level for the listening component of the lesson. The long sentences of 8 to 10 words are a bit difficult to bring in and repeat from memory when your only in section 2.

Just so you know, you can slow down the audio in the course to better catch how those longer phrases sound. Just click the settings cog in the top-right corner of your screen and adjust the playback speed. Regarding the voice recognition, there are a few setup tweaks we can suggest to help it work more optimally. I haven't used Customer Service, so I really can't rate that yet. However, with regard to the course experience, it's truly been fantastic so far. It incorporates so many elements of an organic, language learning experience and has been the most effective in terms of retention AND motivation for me. It keeps me engaged and wanting to try harder and perfect everything, and I can tell when I make real progress. The speech recognition has been a little inconsistent at times; I once recorded "Sayaka-san" and played it back and it still didn't mark it as correct. *lol* But it is an excellent feature overall. I feel safe using Rocket Japanese in that I don't worry that my voiceprint is being captured and retained and used to build a profile on me to market to business partners, etc. That's been one of the most crucial elements keeping me engaged; I feel I can trust Rocket Japanese with my information and privacy.

I am pretty satisfied with my experience. I especially love the role-playing because it gives me a chance to act like I am actually speaking with a Japanese person.

I love this app! I chose this over duolingo, and here is why:
1).Duo always pressures you to do your lessons and even takes away your streak if you miss a day which is completely unfair. But with Rocket languages, you can miss a few days and it won't send you continuous messages to do it, as duolingo does. It will sometimes reset your streak, but it doesn't pop up in your face
2). Rocket languages doesn't only have text-to-speech lessons, but you can actually repeat what it says, and the AI will check your accuracy. Duolingo can't do that.
3). Instead of waiting to complete the overall course for each stage of talking the language you want to speak, you can choose if you are ready to start a new course or not WITHOUT having to complete a test.
That concludes my opinion of why I think rocket languages is more relieving than Duolingo. You can get the full learning experience and not have to worry about being pressured!

The detailed explanations from early on really help me to understand what I'm saying a lot more, and so I remember the words better. I'm also a big fan of the literal translations, because that is always how my brain has worked when it comes to learning languages.
